LDS Church Gives Water to Children in Africa

There are so many things I complain about when it comes to my kids’ school.

The Kindergarten homework is too complicated and takes too long.

They beg for money too much.

They send my kids home with too much homework multiplied by three.

The lunches aren’t that nutritious.

The teachers sometimes dress like they have no common sense (very inappropriately).

We’re left in the dark about too many things.

The concerts lack an actual accompanist, making it sound like a giant Karaoke party.

The carnivals are disorganized and crazy.

etc.

I could go on and on.  I have gone on and on, but I was humbled to read about this situation in Africa.  Never will I run into the complaint that my children had no access to water off and on, but that is what happened to the kids there.  The city frequently shuts off the water with no warning, affecting 960 children at the Vulamasango Primary School in Kanyemazane, South Africa.  Many of them are orphans.  Besides having nothing to drink, this makes cooking food difficult and they can’t use the restroom.  Sadly, the lunch they have at school is their only meal of the day.

After hearing about this situation, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated a tank containing 5,000 liters of water to supplement their water supply.  The education department was filled with gratitude and presented the church with a certificate of appreciation.  The school also allows the church to have services there.

I am grateful to be a member of the church and in awe of all the good it does on many levels.  Today when my children come home for Spring break, I will share with them how fortunate they are to have a school that serves all of their needs.   You can read the full story here.
